Chattogram, July 16 (CTG Mail): Bangladesh Welfare Society has carried out a two-day humanitarian relief campaign in flood-hit Banshkhali, providing cooked meals, cash assistance and essential support to hundreds of affected residents under the slogan, “Not Relief, but a Gift of Love.”

The relief programme began on July 14 and continued until the early hours of July 15, with a 17-member volunteer team reaching remote flood-affected communities across the upazila.

The campaign was led by Nazim Uddin Chowdhury Anel, general secretary of Bangladesh Welfare Society and managing director of Desh Communication Limited, who personally supervised the distribution activities.

The programme was inaugurated with a prayer led by the organisation’s Joint General Secretary, Hafez Qari Amanullah Doulat, who praised Anel’s longstanding commitment to humanitarian causes.

He said Anel had consistently stood beside people during national crises, including the devastating floods in Sylhet and Sunamganj and the Rohingya refugee emergency, describing humanitarian service as one of his lifelong commitments.

As part of the initiative, cooked meals were served to nearly 600 flood victims who had taken shelter at a cyclone centre in Madhyam Ilsha village of Banshkhali. Several underprivileged families also received financial assistance to help them cope with the aftermath of the floods.

Local residents expressed gratitude for the support, saying the assistance brought relief during a period of prolonged hardship and uncertainty.

Among those present were Programme Coordinator Engineer Supon Barua Chowdhury, banker Yasin Arafat Munna, advocate Shafiul Alam Khokon, engineer Abu Naser Mahmud Shahed, social worker MD Milon, musician Golam Mostafa, Kamrul Islam, Muntasirul Karim, and other volunteers of the organisation.

The programme also drew local public representatives, community leaders and residents, who appreciated the organisation’s humanitarian efforts and encouraged it to continue supporting vulnerable communities during times of crisis.

The initiative has been widely welcomed as a timely effort to bring hope and relief to flood-affected families in Banshkhali.
