Mayor Distributes Relief to Waterlogging Victims

Chattogram, July 19 (CTG Mail): Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain distributed emergency food assistance among 500 families affected by severe waterlogging in Patenga following recent record rainfall and high tides that inundated several parts of the port city.

The humanitarian programme, organised by Patenga Thana BNP, was held on Sunday afternoon at a community centre in the Katghar area of North Patenga Ward. During the event, the mayor handed over relief packages containing rice, lentils and other essential dry food items to affected residents.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Shahadat said it is both a moral and humanitarian responsibility to support people affected by natural disasters.

He said the government is working to reduce the suffering of vulnerable communities and that relief and recovery efforts will continue in line with the Prime Minister’s directives.

The mayor also said public representatives, political workers and volunteers should work together to assist disaster-hit people regardless of political affiliation, ensuring that humanitarian support reaches those most in need.

He thanked party leaders, activists and volunteers for their efforts in organising the relief campaign and called on all sections of society to come forward in support of families struggling in the aftermath of the flooding.

Among those present were Chattogram Metropolitan BNP Senior Joint Convener Mohammad Mia Bhola, Convener Committee Member Mujibul Haque, former General Secretary of Patenga Thana BNP Mohammad Shahabuddin, Patenga-Halishahar Sramik Dal President Abu Jafar, former President of Ward No. 40 BNP Mohammad Harun Company, Ward BNP Convener Md Lokman, Member Secretary Monjur Kader, and other local BNP and associate organisation leaders.
