    Surchakra Music School Marks Fifth Anniversary

    Surchakra Music School, a cultural education institution based in Chattogram, celebrated its fifth founding anniversary on Thursday with a colourful programme featuring cultural performances, a felicitation ceremony and prize distribution at the Chattogram District Shilpakala Academy auditorium.

    The event brought together students and guardians from the school’s Uttar Kattali (main campus) and Chatteswari Road branches, alongside invited guests, cultural personalities and well-wishers, creating a festive atmosphere.

    The programme began with a ceremonial candle-lighting by Masudur Rahman, Assistant Director (General Education) at Asian University for Women. The chief guest was Md Imam Hossain, General Manager of Bangladesh Television (BTV), Chattogram Centre. Abdul Mannan Rana, President of the Chattogram Betar and Television Artistes’ Association, attended as the special guest.

    One of the highlights of the anniversary celebration was the felicitation of three distinguished music educators in recognition of their contributions to music education and cultural development.

    The honourees were Shibu Prasad Chowdhury, tabla maestro and founder-principal of Loykari Music School; Rishu Talukdar, founder-principal of Bagishwari Sangeetalay; and Faruk Ahmed, founder-principal of Ragini Music School. They were presented with commemorative crests and ceremonial shawls by the guests.

    Speakers at the discussion underscored the importance of promoting authentic music education, nurturing cultural values among the younger generation and strengthening society through the practice of arts and culture.

    The concluding and vote of thanks was delivered by Advocate Sabyasachi Acharya, founder and principal of Surchakra Music School.

    The cultural segment opened with a rendition of the Nazrul song Trishito Akash Kape Re. Students and instructors of the institution presented solo and group vocal performances, guitar and ukulele recitals, tabla performances, recitation, an art exhibition and dance performances.

    The accompanying musicians included Judicious Chakma on keyboard, Joseph Deyes on guitar, Arghya Das and Rajan Bahadur Lama on tabla, David Dutta on cajón and Titu Chowdhury on octapad.

    The organisers also acknowledged the contributions of Amit Chowdhury, Purnam Chowdhury, Parban Gharja, Soumen Dutta and other members of the organising committee for ensuring the successful execution of the programme.

    The celebration concluded with a chorus performance of Rabindranath Tagore’s Anandadhara Bohichhe Bhubane.

    Founded in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, Surchakra Music School now offers regular training in eight disciplines for both children and general learners. Since its inception, the institution has been working to promote authentic music education, foster cultural values and inspire a new generation through the arts.
