Satkania, Chattogram, July 13: State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit on Monday said the government will continue standing beside flood-affected people across Chattogram and the Chattogram Hill Tracts, pledging sustained relief and rehabilitation efforts for families affected by the recent flooding.

The state minister made the remarks while visiting flood-hit areas in Keochia Union of Satkania Upazila, where he inspected the overall situation, spoke with affected residents and distributed relief materials among hundreds of flood victims.

Addressing local people during the visit, Amit said the government remains committed to ensuring that no flood-affected family is left without assistance. He added that relief operations are continuing in coordination with local authorities and humanitarian organisations to reach people living in the worst-hit areas.

“The government stands beside flood victims and will continue providing all possible support until the situation returns to normal,” the minister said.

He also conveyed sympathy to affected families, saying many people have endured severe hardship over the past several days because of prolonged flooding. He expressed hope that conditions would improve soon and assured residents that emergency food assistance and other essential supplies would continue to be distributed among families facing shortages.

Relief and rehabilitation to continue after floods

The state minister said the government’s response would extend beyond immediate relief distribution. Once floodwaters recede, rehabilitation programmes will be launched to help affected communities recover from the disaster.

According to Amit, financial assistance will be provided for repairing damaged houses, while farmers, fish cultivators and livestock owners who suffered losses during the floods will also receive government support aimed at restoring their livelihoods.

He said rehabilitation measures would focus on helping families return to normal life as quickly as possible, particularly those whose homes, agricultural land and income sources have been severely affected.

The minister added that local administrations have remained actively engaged since the beginning of the flooding, working around the clock to minimise public suffering and coordinate emergency response activities.

He also acknowledged the role of the local Member of Parliament in supporting relief operations from the outset.

Amit said he visited Satkania to review the ongoing response, coordinate relief activities and assess the immediate needs of affected residents.

Army, Air Force praised for relief operations

The state minister praised the Bangladesh Army and the Bangladesh Air Force for their contribution to delivering relief assistance in remote and inaccessible flood-hit areas.

He said members of the armed forces have played an important humanitarian role by transporting emergency supplies and supporting local authorities in reaching communities cut off by floodwaters.

He expressed appreciation for their continued assistance, noting that coordinated efforts among government agencies, security forces and humanitarian organisations have strengthened the overall disaster response.

More than 1,900 flood victims receive relief assistance

Monday’s relief programme began at Iqbal Convention Centre before officials travelled to different flood-affected locations across Satkania Upazila.

With the assistance of the Bangladesh Air Force, relief materials were distributed among 300 flood-affected people at Keochia High School.

Another 300 residents received relief support at Bishwar Bari in Dharmapur.

Later, 500 flood victims were provided with relief materials at Mahalia Road in Bajalia Union with the support of Jagoroni Foundation.

Separately, the World Food Programme (WFP), in coordination with the Upazila Administration, distributed 500 cartons of biscuits and 500 packets of rice at the Upazila Parishad premises.

The Chattogram District Council also distributed 300 packets of dry food among flood-affected families at Demsha Union Parishad.

Officials said the relief campaign reflected the joint efforts of government institutions, humanitarian organisations and local administrations to ensure emergency assistance reaches affected communities without delay.

Officials accompany minister during inspection

Several senior government officials, local representatives and political leaders accompanied the state minister during the inspection and relief distribution programme.

Among those present were Member of Parliament Mohammad Jasim Uddin Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Jahidul Islam Mia, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Pathan Md Saiduzzaman, officials of the Upazila Administration, members of the police administration, elected public representatives and local political and social leaders.

Large parts of Satkania and other areas of Chattogram have experienced flooding following heavy rainfall in recent days, disrupting transportation, damaging homes and agricultural land and affecting thousands of residents.

Local authorities continue to monitor the evolving situation while relief operations remain underway across affected areas. Government officials said emergency assistance, rehabilitation programmes and recovery measures will continue in phases to help flood-hit families rebuild their homes and livelihoods after the floodwaters recede.
