Chattogram, August 11: A multi-stakeholder campaign aimed at promoting food security, safe food and improved child nutrition was held in Chattogram on Tuesday, bringing together government officials, health professionals, NGOs and development practitioners.

The ENOUGH Campaign, organised by World Vision Bangladesh’s Karnaphuli Area Development Programme, was held at the Bangladesh Shishu Academy in Chattogram.

The programme was chaired by Jony Rosario, Area Development Programme Manager of World Vision Bangladesh’s Karnaphuli Area Development Programme.

Dr AKM Huayemun Kabir, professor of the Department of Dairy and Poultry Science at Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University and director of the Poultry Research and Training Centre, joined the event as the keynote speaker on safe food and nutrition.

Dr Kamrul Azad, Deputy Director (Health), Chattogram Division, attended the programme as the chief guest.

Among the special guests were Jahangir Alam, Civil Surgeon of Chattogram; Atia Chowdhury, Deputy Director of the Department of Women Affairs, Chattogram; Dr Saunam Barua, Deputy Civil Surgeon of Chattogram; and Dr Tapan Kumar Chakraborty, Health Officer of Chattogram City Corporation.

Representatives from several non-government organisations also attended the programme. They included Md Ali Sikdar, Executive Director of Swapnil Bright Foundation; Yasmin Parvin, Executive Director of Jugantar Samaj Unnayan Sangstha; Piyush Das Gupta, Programme Manager of Usha Nari Unnayan Sangstha; Jinnat Ara Begum, In-charge of Aparajeyo Bangladesh; and Lutfunnesa Rupsa, Executive Director of CDC.

Representatives of World Vision Bangladesh, including Denis Tapno, Rita Dolon Rosario, Sharmin Akter, Ripa Chakma, Payel Christina Das and Smita De, were also present.

The speakers said the global ENOUGH campaign of World Vision seeks to address child hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition through collective action rather than limiting interventions to charity or sponsorship.

The campaign focuses on bringing positive changes to policies and systems, mobilising communities and encouraging stakeholders to take action for sustainable improvements in food and nutrition security.

The central vision of the ENOUGH campaign is to ensure that every child aged 0–18 in Bangladesh grows up with access to sufficient, nutritious and safe food and enjoys food security.

During the discussion, speakers stressed the importance of achieving Sustainable Development Goal 2, or Zero Hunger, which calls for ending hunger, ensuring food security, improving nutrition and promoting sustainable agriculture.

They also highlighted the need to ensure universal access to safe and nutritious food, eliminate all forms of malnutrition and increase investment in rural infrastructure, agricultural research, technology and gene banks.

Speakers emphasised that addressing child malnutrition requires coordinated action across multiple sectors, including health, agriculture, education, social protection and community development.

The campaign also highlighted a range of interventions, including sustainable agriculture training, strengthening infrastructure, school meal programmes, community-based nutrition workshops, referral linkages and stronger food distribution networks.

Participants said stronger coordination between government agencies, NGOs, health professionals, local institutions and communities is essential to ensure that children receive adequate nutrition and grow up in a safe and healthy environment.

The programme concluded with a renewed commitment from participating stakeholders to work together to improve food security, strengthen child nutrition and raise awareness at the community level, with the goal of ensuring nutritious food and a healthy life for every child.
