WASA Coordinates with CDA, City Corporation to Tackle Waterlogging Amid Heavy Rainfall

Chattogram Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) has strengthened its emergency preparations as heavy rainfall continues in the port city. WASA Coordinates with CDA, City Corporation to Tackle Waterlogging through regular communication and joint efforts to reduce public suffering during adverse weather conditions.
Chattogram WASA Managing Director Engineer Selim Md. Jane Alam said the authority remains prepared round the clock to deal with any situation caused by heavy rainfall. He said necessary measures have been taken to keep field-level activities active and ensure quick responses in areas affected by waterlogging.
“Even during intense rainfall, we are fully prepared. All necessary steps are being taken to handle the situation,” he said.
The WASA managing director said coordination among government agencies is essential to manage waterlogging in Chattogram. He added that WASA is maintaining regular communication with the Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) and Chattogram City Corporation to ensure effective action during emergencies.
Joint Efforts by WASA, CDA and City Corporation to Reduce Public Suffering
Engineer Selim Md. Jane Alam assumed charge as the Managing Director of Chattogram WASA on May 21 on a one-year contractual appointment. Since taking responsibility, he has focused on improving coordination among WASA, CDA and City Corporation to ensure better urban services.
He said waterlogging is a major challenge for Chattogram during the monsoon season and cannot be solved by any single organisation alone.
“Effective coordination among all concerned institutions is necessary to provide better services and reduce the difficulties faced by city residents,” he said.
According to WASA officials, special instructions have been given to concerned departments to remain active during heavy rainfall. Emergency teams, manpower and necessary equipment have been kept ready to respond quickly if any disruption occurs.
Waterlogging has remained a long-standing problem in Chattogram. Heavy rainfall, hill runoff, tidal water and limitations in the drainage system often cause water accumulation in different low-lying areas of the city.
Although several development projects are being implemented to improve drainage facilities and control waterlogging, officials believe immediate response and field-level coordination are equally important during extreme weather.
WASA Ensures Uninterrupted Services During Heavy Rain
The WASA managing director said maintaining normal water supply and ensuring essential services for residents are among the authority’s top priorities during difficult weather conditions.
He said officials and employees have been instructed to remain alert and take quick action whenever any problem is reported from different areas of the city.
Meanwhile, CDA, City Corporation and WASA are continuing their efforts to improve drainage management and reduce the impact of waterlogging in Chattogram. Authorities are focusing on both long-term solutions and immediate response strategies during heavy rainfall.
WASA officials said the situation is being monitored regularly and all necessary arrangements have been kept in place to provide uninterrupted services to citizens.
They said the combined efforts of WASA, CDA and Chattogram City Corporation will help strengthen emergency management and reduce the challenges caused by heavy rainfall and waterlogging in the city.
The authority has assured residents that it will continue working with concerned agencies to ensure faster response and better public services throughout the monsoon season.
