Former State Minister for Labour and Employment and former Member of Parliament for Chattogram-14 (Chandanaish-Satkania partial constituency), freedom fighter Md Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, passed away early Monday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Dhaka.
He breathed his last at around 4:15am on Monday (July 13) at Evercare Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment for cancer for a long period, family sources said.
According to relatives, Nazrul Islam Chowdhury had been battling cancer for quite some time and was admitted to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka for advanced treatment. His physical condition deteriorated in recent days, prompting doctors to place him on life support.
He passed away in the early hours of Monday while under intensive medical care.
His nephew, Rukun Ahmed Chowdhury, said the first funeral prayer (janaza) will be held at 10:00pm on Monday in front of his residence at the Beverly Hill Society in Chattogram city, following a family decision.
The second janaza is scheduled to take place at 11:00am on Tuesday (July 14) at the Kanchanabad High School ground in Chandanaish upazila. He will later be laid to rest at the family graveyard.
Nazrul Islam Chowdhury served as State Minister for Labour and Employment and represented the Chattogram-14 constituency in the Jatiya Sangsad. He was also recognised as a brave freedom fighter who contributed to Bangladesh’s Liberation War.
His death has sparked an outpouring of grief among political leaders, social organisations, and people from different walks of life, many of whom paid tribute to his contributions to politics and public service.
