Relief Distributed Among 1,000 Flood-Affected Families

Chattogram, July 19 (CTG Mail) :

Diplomatic missions of the member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Dhaka have extended humanitarian assistance to flood-affected residents of Chattogram by distributing emergency relief among 1,000 families in the city’s West Bakalia area.

The relief distribution programme was held on Sunday in Ward No. 17 (West Bakalia), where Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain attended as the chief guest and handed over relief packages to the beneficiaries.

Addressing the gathering, the mayor said standing beside people during times of disaster reflects the true spirit of humanity. He noted that the recent record rainfall and flooding had caused severe hardship for many families across Chattogram, making the support from OIC member states both timely and significant.

“The humanitarian assistance extended by OIC member countries will play an important role in easing the suffering of flood-affected people,” he said.

Dr. Shahadat also emphasized that Bangladesh has always valued international cooperation and humanitarian solidarity. He said the assistance from friendly nations goes beyond relief supplies, strengthening the bonds of friendship, brotherhood, and cooperation among OIC member states and Bangladesh.

The mayor added that the Chattogram City Corporation has continued post-flood rehabilitation efforts, including cleaning operations in affected neighbourhoods, improving drainage, providing healthcare services, and ensuring emergency assistance. He stressed that coordinated support from both government agencies and national and international development partners would make disaster response more effective.

Expressing gratitude to the embassies and high commissions of OIC member countries in Dhaka, the mayor hoped such humanitarian cooperation would continue in the future.

Representatives of the Embassy of Palestine said supporting people affected by humanitarian crises is one of the key commitments of OIC member states and that the assistance provided to Bangladesh reflects that shared responsibility.

Under the joint initiative of the embassies and high commissions of OIC member countries based in Dhaka, food items, safe drinking water, and other essential supplies were distributed among flood-affected and waterlogged families.

Among those present at the programme were Chattogram-9 lawmaker Abu Sufian, Chattogram Metropolitan BNP Joint Convener Yasin Chowdhury Liton, Convener Committee members Gazi Mohammad Siraj Ullah, Mohammad Kamrul Islam, and Anwar Hossain Lipu, representatives of the Embassy of Palestine Dr. Khaled Abushawish and Dr. Abdelrahman Alsoradi, former Organising Secretary of Chattogram Metropolitan Jubo Dal Emdadul Haque Badsha, along with representatives of OIC member states and local community leaders.
