CCTV Footage Helps Identify Alleged Key Coordinator

Chattogram, July 19 (CTG Mail): The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested eight more people, including an alleged “key coordinator,” in connection with the recent attack on an internet service provider (ISP) in Chattogram, officials said on Sunday.

According to RAB-7, the suspects were identified through closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage collected from the scene. The elite force also recovered weapons allegedly used during the attack.

RAB released photographs of four of the arrested suspects and said further details would be disclosed at a press briefing scheduled for Sunday afternoon.

    Attack Targeted Internet Service Provider

The incident took place on Monday afternoon at the office of Digital Dot Net (DDN), an internet service provider located on Bakalia Access Road in the port city.

A group of assailants allegedly stormed the office, vandalised property and looted valuables, causing extensive damage.

    Company Alleges Extortion Demand

The company alleged that Mobarak Hossain Imon, also known as Debit Imon, an alleged associate of Chattogram’s listed criminal Sajjad who is reportedly living abroad, had demanded Tk 20 million as a one-time payment and Tk 1 million per month in extortion.

According to the company, the attack was carried out after it refused to meet those demands. An audio recording, allegedly of a conversation between the company’s owner and Imon, has since circulated on social media.

Case Filed Over Vandalism and Looting

A DDN official later filed a case with Chawkbazar Police Station, stating that the company’s Managing Director Adil Bin Mahmud received an extortion call on July 11.

The complaint alleges that around 30 to 40 armed attackers entered the company’s office on Monday, vandalised computers, laptops, furniture and glass fixtures, causing losses estimated at Tk 1.5 million.

The attackers also allegedly took away three mobile phones, Tk 47,000 in cash from a drawer and a bag containing Tk 3.5 million belonging to the company’s director.

    Earlier Arrests

Police had earlier arrested eight suspects within two days of the attack.

They were identified as Md Yunus (41), Imran Hossain Chang (31), Akbar Hossain (24), Md Sumon (27), Gias Uddin (21), Md Nayan (20), and Abdul Nahid, also known as Farhad (28). (Authorities previously reported eight arrests.)

The investigation is continuing, while law enforcement agencies are working to identify and apprehend any remaining suspects involved in the attack.
