
Chattogram, July 16 (CTG Mail): Youth volunteers of the Chattogram City Red Crescent Unit have been widely praised for their humanitarian service during the recent spell of heavy rainfall, with Bangladesh Red Crescent Society leaders describing their efforts as a shining example of compassion and community service.
The appreciation came during a programme held at the Chattogram City Corporation auditorium in Tigerpass, where relief items were formally distributed among people affected by the recent downpours. The event also featured an exchange meeting with officials and volunteers of the Chattogram City Red Crescent Unit.
The meeting was chaired by Dr Shahadat Hossain, Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation and Chairman of the Chattogram City Red Crescent Unit. The chief guest was Barrister Md Abdus Salam, Chairman of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society.
Speaking at the event, Dr Shahadat Hossain praised the dedication of youth volunteers and recalled the vital role played by the Chattogram City Red Crescent during the devastating 2007 landslides in the city.
He said the organisation remains fully prepared to respond to emergencies at any place and at any time, reaffirming its commitment to serving people during future disasters.
Barrister Md Abdus Salam said the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society has consistently stood beside vulnerable communities before, during and after disasters.
He described the humanitarian activities of the Chattogram City Red Crescent during the recent heavy rainfall as highly commendable and urged volunteers to continue working together to strengthen disaster response efforts.
Relief assistance was distributed among people affected by the recent heavy rains as part of the organisation’s ongoing humanitarian response.
The programme highlighted the importance of coordinated volunteer efforts in supporting vulnerable communities during natural disasters.
The programme was conducted by M A Salam, Vice-Chairman of the Chattogram City Unit and Managing Director of Asian Group.
Among the special guests were Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Vice-Chairman Dr Md Rafiqul Kabir, board members Dr Md Shahidur Rahman, Faruk Uddin Bhuiyan, Rafiqul Islam Sikder, Dr Jamil Ahmed and Kazi Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman.
Also present were Chattogram City Red Crescent Secretary Golam Baki Masud, executive committee members Ziaul Haque Sohel, Mehedi Hasan Raihan, Mohammad Enamul Haque, Youth Chief Dipta Bhattacharjee, and numerous youth volunteers.
The meeting concluded with appreciation for the dedication of the youth volunteers, whose efforts during the recent heavy rainfall were recognised as an inspiring example of humanitarian service and community resilience.
