    Committees to Coordinate Waterlogging Response

CTG Mail Desk | Chattogram | Saturday

Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain has announced the formation of four constituency-based coordination committees to identify flood damage, tackle persistent waterlogging and recommend immediate and long-term solutions following recent record rainfall across the city.

The decision was taken during a coordination meeting held at the Chattogram City Corporation Rest House in Dampara on Saturday. Members of Parliament  Ershad Ullah, Mohammad Abu Sufian and Saeed Al Noman , CDA Chairman Engineer Belayet Hossain, Chattogram WASA Managing Director Selim Mohammad Jane Alam, CCC Acting Chief Executive Officer and Secretary Md Ashraful Amin, and senior officials from the Bangladesh Water Development Board and other service agencies attended the meeting.

Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain said Chattogram’s long-standing civic problems cannot be resolved by a single organisation.

“Only coordinated action among all relevant agencies can provide a sustainable solution to the city’s waterlogging problem.”

He said each committee would include representatives from Chattogram City Corporation (CCC), Chattogram Development Authority (CDA), Chattogram WASA, Bangladesh Water Development Board and other service agencies to ensure faster identification of problems and effective implementation of solutions.

The committees will conduct field inspections to assess damage caused by recent heavy rainfall, identify waterlogging hotspots, examine canals and drainage networks, and prepare recommendations for repairing damaged infrastructure.

According to the meeting, the committees will cover four parliamentary constituencies:

    Chattogram-8: Bayezid–Chandgaon

    Chattogram-9: Kotwali–Bakalia–part of Double Mooring

    Chattogram-10: Halishahar–Pahartali–Khulshi

    Chattogram-11: Bandar–Patenga–EPZ

The committees will work closely with the respective Members of Parliament to determine infrastructure losses, identify drainage bottlenecks and recommend practical measures for rehabilitation and long-term flood mitigation.

The participating MPs welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely step to strengthen coordination among government agencies and accelerate solutions to the city’s recurring waterlogging crisis.

Officials agreed that stronger inter-agency coordination and regular progress reviews would be essential to improve public services and ensure the effective implementation of the proposed measures.
