Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Zaahidul Islm has been promoted to the rank of Joint Secretary as part of a major promotion in Bangladesh’s civil administration.
The Ministry of Public Administration on Thursday (July 9) issued a notification promoting 172 deputy secretaries to joint secretary. It is the first major promotion in the civil administration since the BNP-led government assumed office.
Among those promoted are 10 Deputy Commissioners (DCs) from across the country, including Chattogram DC Mohammad Zaahidul Islm.
Following the announcement, officials of the Chattogram District Administration congratulated the newly promoted Joint Secretary. Those extending their congratulations included Additional Deputy Commissioner (Land) Md. Kamruzzaman, Additional District Magistrate Syed Mahbubul Haque, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Sharif Uddin, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education & ICT) Pathan Md. Saiduzzaman, and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Sakhawat Jamil Soikat.
As the Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram, Zaahidul Islm has been leading the district administration in key areas, including disaster management, development coordination, public service delivery, and law and order. His promotion is widely viewed as a significant milestone in his administrative career.
The position of Deputy Commissioner carries the rank of Deputy Secretary in Bangladesh’s civil administration. Promotion to the rank of Joint Secretary is considered an important step in the country’s administrative hierarchy.
The list of promoted Deputy Commissioners also includes Farida Khanam (Dhaka), Mohammad Shahid Hossain Chowdhury (Patuakhali), Md. Nurul Karim Bhuiyan (Gazipur), Abu Saleh Md. Musa Jangi (Chapainawabganj), Kazi Shahidul Islam (Rajshahi), Mohammad Nayiruzzaman (Nilphamari), Sharifa Haque (Tangail), Tahsina Begum (Shariatpur), and Motakabbir Ahmed (Magura).
In addition, ABM Iftekharul Islam Khondaker, Private Secretary to the Minister of Health and Family Welfare, has also been promoted to the rank of Joint Secretary.
