Youth Dies in Wall Collapse; Authorities Urge Residents to Stay Alert Amid Heavy Rainfall

The Rahman Nagar Wall Collapse incident in Chattogram has raised concerns after a youth died following a tragic wall collapse during heavy rainfall.

Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain and Chattogram-10 constituency lawmaker Sayeed Al Noman visited the Rahman Nagar area on Tuesday following the tragic incident that claimed the life of a young man amid heavy rainfall and waterlogging concerns in the city.

The mayor and Sayeed Al Noman inspected the affected area, particularly Rahman Nagar’s ‘B’ Block, where the wall collapsed recently. They spoke with local residents and reviewed the overall situation after several days of continuous heavy rain in the port city.

The visit came at a time when different parts of Chattogram are facing challenges caused by intense monsoon rainfall, including waterlogging, damaged structures and increased risks in vulnerable areas.

During the inspection, Sayeed Al Noman expressed deep sorrow over the death of the youth in the wall collapse incident. He conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family and assured them of necessary support.

He urged residents living near vulnerable structures to remain cautious during the rainy season. He also advised people to avoid staying close to weak walls, old buildings and areas vulnerable to rain-induced hazards.

Meanwhile, Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain has been monitoring the city’s waterlogging situation and visiting different vulnerable areas to assess the impact of heavy rainfall. He has directed CCC officials and field-level workers to take immediate measures to reduce public suffering.
