Staff Reporter (CTGMail): Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to visit the flood-affected upazilas of Hathazari, Fatikchhari and Banshkhali in Chattogram on Aug. 9 to assess the situation and extend government assistance to affected families.
The Prime Minister’s Press Secretary, Saleh Shibly, confirmed the visit on Monday, saying the tour has been finalised.
During the visit, the prime minister will distribute relief materials among flood victims and hand over newly constructed government-funded houses to families who lost their homes in the recent floods.
The visit will mark Tarique Rahman’s first official trip to Chattogram since assuming office as prime minister.
Officials said preparations are in full swing at both administrative and party levels ahead of the visit. Construction of houses for flood-affected families has reached its final stage, allowing them to be handed over during the programme.
According to the planned schedule, the prime minister will also attend a brief public gathering and address local residents.
Authorities are preparing a helipad at the designated venue, while security and logistical arrangements are being strengthened to ensure the programme runs smoothly.
As part of the visit, Tarique Rahman is expected to travel to West Banshkhali, where he will distribute relief assistance and formally hand over 100 newly rebuilt homes to families displaced by the floods.
South Chattogram BNP Convener Idris Mia said he and the party’s member secretary had been invited to the Prime Minister’s Gulshan office to discuss preparations for the visit. He added that party leaders and activists are making the necessary arrangements to welcome the prime minister.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mohammad Sharif Uddin said the district administration has begun comprehensive preparations for the visit and will finalise all arrangements once the official programme schedule is received.
