Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon paid a courtesy visit to the leaders of the Chattogram Press Club on Thursday ahead of a press conference marking the upcoming Prime Minister’s Gold Cup National Football Tournament.
The meeting took place at the July Uprising Hall of the Chattogram Press Club before the official briefing on the nationwide inter-college football competition.
Addressing journalists, the education minister thanked the press club for its warm reception and sought the media’s cooperation in making the tournament a success.
“I have come here today to share this announcement and seek your support. On behalf of the Ministry of Education, I sincerely thank the officials of the Chattogram Press Club and all journalists for the warm welcome you have extended to us,” he said.
Dr Milon said the Prime Minister had envisioned the Prime Minister’s Gold Cup as a platform to promote football among students at the inter-college level and inspire young athletes across the country.
He said the opening ceremony at the Chattogram Stadium would be organised in a festive atmosphere similar to major international football tournaments, aiming to encourage greater participation in sports among students.
The minister added that the government was working closely with all stakeholders, including the divisional administration, police, education authorities, elected representatives, civil society members and the media, to ensure the successful organisation of the tournament.
“We want to nurture a new generation of sports-loving youth and create opportunities for talented players to represent Bangladesh on the global stage,” he said.
The programme was chaired by Chattogram Press Club President Zahidul Karim Kochi and moderated by General Secretary Golam Mawla Murad.
Among those present were Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain, Members of Parliament Ershad Ullah and Abu Sufian, Education Secretary Abdul Khalek, Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Dr Md Ziauddin, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah, Chattogram Metropolitan Police Commissioner Hasan Md Shawkat Ali, Chattogram Education Board Chairman Prof Abdullah Al Mamun Chowdhury, along with senior journalists, press club officials and government representatives.
