Administration Reaffirms Commitment to July Martyrs’ Families

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah met with the families of those who lost their lives during the July mass uprising, listening to their concerns and assuring them that the district administration would continue to stand beside them.

The meeting brought together relatives of several July martyrs, many of whom described the financial hardship, security concerns and uncertainty they have faced since losing their loved ones. The Deputy Commissioner met each family individually, asking about their current living conditions, children’s education and any challenges they continue to experience.

He encouraged the families to maintain contact with the district administration whenever they needed assistance, reaffirming that they would not be left to face their difficulties alone.

The programme, which began at 12:00 pm and concluded around 2:30 pm, also included the distribution of gift items to the families of the martyrs by the district administration.

Chattogram DC Waits for Wasim Akram’s Sister

Although all invited families were expected to arrive before the programme began, Sabrina Yasmin Soma, sister of Wasim Akram—widely recognised as the first July martyr from Chattogram and the second nationwide during the uprising—arrived nearly an hour after the formal event had ended.

Instead of leaving his office, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah remained at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office to receive her personally.

After Sabrina arrived, she was invited into the office, where the Deputy Commissioner warmly welcomed her, enquired about the wellbeing of her family and assured her of the administration’s continued support.

“I reached the venue much later than the scheduled time, but the DC Sir waited for me,” Sabrina said.

“He welcomed me with a smile, listened carefully to our family’s concerns and assured us that the district administration would stand beside us whenever we needed support.”

She said the Deputy Commissioner’s gesture and patience had deeply touched her family.

Families Share Financial and Security Concerns

During the meeting, family members openly discussed the challenges they continue to face after losing their loved ones.

Nayan Begum, wife of martyr Alam from Eidgah Boubazar under Chattogram City Corporation’s Ward No. 12, spoke about her family’s current situation and her children’s future.

Sajeda Akter, wife of martyr Yusuf from Eidgah Jharna Para, described the difficulties of managing her household following her husband’s death.

“The DC Sir asked about our wellbeing, our children’s education and whether we were facing any problems. He told us to contact him whenever we needed assistance,” she said.

Muhibul Haque, brother of martyr Ishmamul Haque from Amirabad in Lohagara, raised concerns over security and other challenges facing the family.

“We were able to speak openly with the Deputy Commissioner. He listened attentively and assured us that efforts would be made to resolve the issues we raised,” he said.

Hosneara Begum, wife of martyr Shahidul Islam from the Chawkbazar-Bakalia area, also shared the hardships her family has been enduring since her husband’s death.

Other participants included Ruby Akter, mother of martyr Omar Bin Nurul Abchar; Amzad Hossain, uncle of martyr Mahamadur Rahman Shaikat; Taslima Begum, wife of martyr Jamal; and Rahima, mother of martyr Mahin. They highlighted concerns relating to financial hardship, security, children’s education and the future of their families.

District Administration Reaffirms Continued Support

Responding to the families, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah said the relatives of the July martyrs were not alone and that the district administration remained committed to supporting them.

He encouraged every family to contact the district administration whenever they faced urgent needs or difficulties, assuring them that appropriate assistance would be provided whenever possible.

The meeting reflected the district administration’s efforts to maintain direct communication with the families of the July martyrs, allowing them to share their concerns while reinforcing the administration’s commitment to standing beside them during difficult times.
